MATT THORNTON

Principal

Matt is the founder and principal of Thornton Capital. Before establishing Thornton Capital, Matt served as President and CEO of Thorntons, a 200-unit convenience store chain in the Midwest and Southeast from 2001-2019. In 2019, Matt and his team negotiated the sale of the business to a newly formed joint venture between BP and ArcLight Capital partners. Separately in 2009, Matt seeded L3 Capital. Based in Chicago, L3 Capital is a prime urban retail and mixed-use real estate investment firm that targets institutional quality, core plus and value-add, urban retail, office, and residential investments within first tier US markets.

THOMAS A. JONES

PRESIDENT & CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER

Tom serves as the President and Chief Investment Officer for Thornton Capital, and oversees the organization’s risk management, business development and investment strategies. Previously he worked in banking, holding positions in relationship management, business development and credit at both JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo. Prior to banking he worked in consulting at Deloitte. He earned dual bachelor’s degrees in economics and German at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, was a Fulbright Scholar in Vienna, Austria, and earned his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

MICHAEL LYNCH

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER & CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Mike holds the dual roles of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, where he oversees all financial, reporting, and operational aspects of the firm’s operations. Before joining Thornton Capital, Mike served as the CFO of FireKing Security Group, a platform holding company of Pfingston Partners. He successfully orchestrated a business turnaround that led to the acquisition of the company by an international strategic partner. Preceding his tenure at FireKing, Mike accumulated five years of experience in executive accounting and finance positions within private equity-sponsored ventures.

SAM CROCKETT

INVESTMENT MANAGER

Sam serves as Thornton Capital’s Investment Manager, executing the firm’s investment strategy through opportunity sourcing, deal diligence, and ongoing relationship and portfolio management. Prior to Thornton Capital, Sam was in management consulting with EY focusing on finance and digital strategy transformation. Sam earned a Finance degree from The Farmer School of Business at Miami University where he was a four-year division one athlete for Miami’s swimming team.

OLIVER BROWN

FINANCE ASSOCIATE

Oliver serves as Finance Associate at Thornton Capital and is responsible for assisting with the firm’s investment activities, financial planning and analysis, and portfolio management and reporting. Prior to joining Thornton Capital, Oliver was on the Corporate Development team at Brown-Forman where he focused on M&A strategy and execution. Before Brown-Forman, he spent 5 years in investment banking. Oliver earned a Finance degree and an MBA from the Daniel’s College of Business at the University of Denver where he was a student-athlete for the division one men’s soccer team.
